Product Description
1992, Made In Japan
Fujigen factory production
This is something a little special, and in the true definition RARE
The reason being, it does not 100% fit into any catalogue model from 1989-1997
It should be a Greco Phoenix Bass, PXB-800 model
As the 800 model has the giveaway of Greco “pro duce” pickups
While the 1250 model has EMG pickups
However, there are some custom oddities that place this into a “factory ordered” model
(which is extremely common of FujiGen production in the early to mid 1990’s)
Or (my stronger research/theory/evidence) is that this is a gateway prototype model
Bridging the gap between the earlier PXB80/100 and later PXB800/1250
The biggest reason being, it is neck pocket/heel factory stamped “PXB-9T”
Of which there is no known model
Then, there are a handful of other unique features
It has an oil stain finish (reserved for the higher 1250 model)
Where the 800 model would be a Brown gloss colour finish (SPK colour code)
The neck is a higher end five piece Walnut and Maple wood (reserved for the higher 1250 model)
Where the 800 model would be a standard/ordinary Maple neck
Lastly, and this is the biggest feature, it has a solid one piece Mahogany body
This is unique, as the 800 model is Ashwood
Whilst the higher end 1250 (and 1600) models are a Walnut/Maple/Mahogany laminate
The cherry on top in that the truss rod cover has no “Phoenix” or model number print
(and yes, it is factory with the original screw holes underneath)
Everything component has been inspected, and is factory assembled/original
With all this in mind, this in an amazing, and truly unique, find for the fan/collector of Greco instruments
