Product Description
Original 1966, SB5A model, Flying Samurai Bass
Made in Japan, constructed at Nippon Gakki
This is a RARE to find, 1st year of production model
Featuring a very low 4 digit serial number, at just 29xx
It is also the hardest colour to find, especially in great condition
The finish is an amazing Lake Placid (candy) Blue, that has aged to perfection
Complimented with the matching colour headstock, with cream neck binding
A feature not original (and I truly believe is for the best) is the pickguard
Originally it is fitted with the same old same, boring white guard
But the previous owner has gone to great trouble, and expense, to fit a custom guard
It is an anodized gold metal guard (with matching gold screws) that looks sensational
Giving the bass a truly distinctive look
These original models from the 60’s are not just unique in appearance
They also pack an incredible punch, with a distinct tone that is truly unique
It has the original Yamaha J-style single coil pickups
The neck has a booming bottom end, whilst the bridge has a growly midrange
Combined they compliment each other perfectly, like a classic J Bass tone
Volume, volume, tone controls
Alder body
Maple neck, with “zero” fret
40mm nut width
Rosewood fretboard, dark grained
32” scale, contemporary “C” profile
12” board, 20 frets
It is in great overall condition for a vintage instrument, at nearly 60 year of age
With a great fast playability and setup, and a low action
It even has the original (often missing) bridge cover
Plus, ALL the original control knob tops (that are almost always missing a few)
These models were only produced for approx. 5 years
So finding them is scarce, finding one in this amazing of condition is even harder
Add to that this bass is from the first year, and is about to celebrate its 60th Birthday
This truly makes it a special find for the collector
But would be a phenomenal 60th birth year bass for the player next year
It includes the hard cas
